Weapons Empty
PostSubject: Weapons   Weapons EmptyThu Jul 16, 2015 7:27 pm

The following are the rules on weapons, largely relating to scaling damage. These apply to all weapons.

1. Please note, shields, for the purpose of simplicity, are under the weapons category rather than the armor category.

2. Every weapon's damage will scale with either strength or dexterity. This means they do more damage the more you level the attribute that it scales with. There are three levels of scaling; high, medium, and low.

3. If a weapon has a high scaling level in one attribute, then it cannot scale with the other attribute. If a weapon can scale for both attributes, then one must be a medium scaling, and the other must be low, or they must both be low scaling.

4. A high scaling level for strength means that, for ever point you have in strength, that weapon does 4 damage more plus its base damage (if the base is 2, and you have 10 strength, it will deal 40 bonus damage, on top of that 2).
A medium scaling level for strength means that, for every point you have in strength, that weapon does 2 more damage plus its base damage (10 in strength adds 20 to the base).
A low scaling level for strength means that, for every point you have in strength, that weapon does 1 more damage plus its base damage (10 in strength adds 10 to the base).
The same applies for dexterity scaling.

5. If a weapon has scaling in both attributes, the damage will stack. This means if you have 5 strength, and 2 dexterity, and your weapon has a medium scaling level for strength, and a low scaling for dexterity, you will deal 10 bonus damage from strength, and 2 bonus damage from dexterity.

6. It is possible for a weapon to not have any scaling levels, in which case it will only deal its base damage, both of which (no scaling levels, and its base damage) will be clearly stated in its description.

7. It is not possible for weapons to break by simply using it in combat. The only way for a weapon to break is for it to be melted down in fires as hot as a blacksmith's, or for someone with 450 or over strength to spend two posts smashing it against a material that is harder than the weapon (smith's hammer, very hard rock, etc).

8. It is possible to block an attack with either your weapon or shield, though ranged attacks can only be blocked by a shield. Doing so requires that you have 10 more dexterity than the attacker, in order to move your weapon/shield fast enough to block. If you are holding only the weapon/shield that you are using to block, it will slow your next action considerably, because you were blocking. If you have more than your one weapon/shield that you are using (e.g.,having one sword and one shield, or dual-wielding), you can choose to block with the second weapon/shield as well, or not. If you block with only one weapon/shield, you will not have any penalty on using the other item for your next action.
-- Blocking with a weapon rather than a shield will block 10% of the incoming damage (taking 900 damage rather than 1,000). Doing so with both weapons will block 20% of incoming damage (800 rather than 1,000).
However, when blocking with a shield, the amount of incoming damage will be listed on the description of the shield. If, for some reason, you were to block with 2 shields, then yes, the effects would double.

9. Blocking only reduces incoming damage from the front. If you have two attackers (i.e., you are being flanked), then you cannot block both in front and behind you at the same time.

10. You can bash an opponent with a shield as an attack. However, when doing so, the shield is treated as having zero base damage, unless stated otherwise in its description, and has only a low damage scaling in strength.

11. Every shield has a maximum amount of damage that it can reduce per attack, and cannot block more than that amount, even if the shield's reduction is based off a percentage value that would otherwise allow it to block more.

12. Every category (referring to the categories of classes) starts with a basic weapon, which can be found in the "of the --" section of that category. However, everyone also starts with an "unarmed weapon", which is simply your fists (and maybe feet, too). This, too, will be listed in the "of the --" section of every category.

13. Every weapon has some required base attributes in order to properly use it. Not having these minimum required attributes will mean that you cannot use that weapon.

14. For ranged weapons, their projectiles will travel a certain number of feet per second. This number will be listed in its description. To dodge ranged attacks, read rules on attributes here. To block ranged attacks, it is the same as dodging, but divide your dexterity by 2 rather than 3. If the outcome is higher than the oncoming ranged attack, you can block it.

15. There are certain penalties for dual-wielding (having a weapon in each hand), and they are as follow:

--Having a shield in one hand and a weapon in the other does not count as dual-wielding. Dual-wielding is only when you have two weapons (two long swords), one in each hand.

--If you do have one weapon in each hand (not counting shield), however, one of the weapons is significantly smaller than the other (a dagger and a sword) or both are small (two daggers), one of the two weapons has its strength scaling dropped down one level. Ex: Using a hand and a half sword with a dagger, the hand and a half would have its medium strength scaling dropped to a low strength scaling, or the dagger with a low strength scaling gets dropped to no strength. Scaling cannot be taken away from a place that already has no scaling, and instead must be taken away elsewhere. (ex: the maul, with medium strength scaling but no dexterity scaling, can only lose strength scaling, since there is no dexterity scaling to be taken.)

--If you have one weapon in each hand, however, neither are small, (two maces), then, each of the weapons will have both of their scalings dropped by a level. Ex: If you are wielding two hand and a half swords, both will have their medium scaling dropped down to low, and both will also have their low dexterity scaling dropped to none. If using two weapons that either have no dexterity scaling or no strength scaling, then only drop the scalings that can be dropped by one level (ex: two mauls, both with medium strength, but no dex, both go to low strength, but remain at no dex).
