Exploring

No one had ever visited the dire grove and lived to tell the tale, well at least no one Ivan had heard of. Ivan would be the first, hopefully, or if he was unlucky his tale would be told to children to keep them from wondering to far in to the woods, "Now kids remember king Ivan who was ripped to shreds by gigantic beasts with talons as big as a sword blade". Ivan chuckled a bit at this last thought, then turned back to the task at hand.

He entered the grove drawing his sword and placing both hands on it as he did so.

He had absolutely no idea what to expect. slowly, he walked forward his eyes scanning every direction attempting to locate any sign of movement.

He had made his move now it was the grove's turn to react. (It's a chess reference he isn't actually waiting for the trees of the grove to do anything.)

Marking this topic for an invasion as soon as I actually wake up.

Ivan heard a low growl emanating from the trees. The growl sounds as though it is most likely rather far away, but the dense foliage and heavy cover make it impossible to pinpoint the source through sight or vision. The grove is full of trees, and the trees provide more than adequate shelter for those who dwell therein. The growl continues, deep and grating. It doesn't seem to be advancing, but it is certainly moving. The echoes reverberate through the air, making the whole grove seem filled with the harsh sound.

Suddenly, the growling halts, and after a few seconds of the echoes fading out, there is complete silence. No bugs can be heard, nor birds, nor animals. Some fifty feet away, a pair of beady eyes come into view from behind a tree. A wolf steps forward from the shadows, its fur on end, its teeth bared, and its throat once again issuing forth an unnerving snarl.

Ivan smiled, so the grove had made it's play. A wolf, but this wolf was unlike those that he had seen before it was larger and more viscous looking, with a aura of hat emanating off of it.

Ivan loosened his grip on his sword and angled himself so that his left side was facing the wolf then move his sword behind him obscuring it from the wolf's view but in the perfect position to deal a devastating blow.

Ivan smiled once again and said, "Bring it on wolfie!"
